A transport load is abnormal when it is an indivisible object that, either due to its size or weight, cannot be moved on a vehicle without exceeding the limitations as described by the National Road Traffic Regulations, 2000. Such freight may only be transported under permit, using a vehicle appropriate to the load. The Department of Transport has extensive rules governing the type of loads that may be moved on our national road network, and these are laid out in the schedule specifying different regulations. An abnormal load is a load which due to its weight, or dimensions cannot be carried on a conventional goods vehicle and requires a special vehicle and arrangements for its transport. In order for Milltrans to do Abnormal Loads we have the following specialised trailers for abnormal loads.

A side loader, also known as a Side lifter or self-loading trailer offers a versatile and cost-effective way of loading, transporting, and unloading containers and other cargo. It makes it possible for you to gain new business, customers, and revenue in a market where container handling is constantly increasing. 
A Side loader can safely handle shipping containers and other cargo from / to other trailers, trucks, trains, or directly on ground level, where they can safely and efficiently be packed or unpacked.
Mounted on a truck or trailer, the side loader can operate with minimal manpower and without any additional equipment, minimizing waiting time, planning, and making it possible to deliver seamless, competitive service.

The purpose of cross-border permits is to: Ensure a more efficient flow of goods and passengers across borders. The permits assist freight operators, passenger transport, and tourism vehicles to move from one SADC country to the next without experiencing extended delays at border posts.  Cross-border transportation involves the activities, infrastructures, and flows that support the passage of passengers and freight across an international border. Milltrans offers transport into the following countries: Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Swaziland.

Reefer containers are bottom air delivery units designed to distribute chilled air from the floor, via specific T-shaped decking. They allow a consistent and uniform supply of air across the entire shipment and ensure a perfect air exchange with the goods. A genset, short for generator set, is a power unit. A genset can be attached to a reefer container and provides the container with cooling. A reefer container does not cool itself and therefore a genset is necessary.

In Bond shipment refers to import or export shipment which has not been cleared by customs and is transported, stored, or handled with security to the government provided by indemnity bonds. A Bonded Transporter is to apply for a removal in Bond License. Milltrans Road Bond Value is R500 000 – Amount basically cover the VAT portion of the uncleared cargo. Such shipments may only be delivered to a Bonded Store. If delivered directly to a client, a Customs Official must be present upon delivery of such cargo.

Milltrans Load and Offload containers enabling them to immediately transfer containers to storage or warehousing. The container is placed on the ground for packing and unpacking and then collected once it is ready to be transported. Milltrans stores both full and empty containers. Milltrans has facilities for 6m and 12m containers. Milltrans also has facilities for reefer containers including plug in points. Milltrans also sells 2^ndhand containers, depending on stock availability.

A customs inspection is an official measure carried out by the customs office and is an important part of freight transport. Customs will do spot checks on import containers. Our depots are registered for this service. It often takes place to ensure the goods declared are indeed what is imported into the country.
